VDL Citea Low Floor double-decker for BVG

At the beginning of February 2015, BVG (Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe) and VDL Bus & Coach
decided to add an extra dimension to their existing exceptionally strong collaboration. “We
are very proud of the confidence BVG has placed in us and look forward to the development
of the Citea DLF, the first public transport double-decker built in the history of VDL”, said
Boris Holtermann, Public Transport Manager of VDL Bus & Coach Deutschland. With the
Citea DLF, VDL Bus & Coach is focusing on the public transport segment for double-
deckers. The VDL Citea DLF is expected to be delivered to BVG in the summer.

VDL Citea DLF for BVG
In developing the new VDL Citea DLF (Double deck Low Floor), optimum use will be made of the
module system around which the Citea range is built. Thanks the clever combination of vehicle
superstructure and a lightweight low floor construction, the Citea DLF also has a low net weight,
which results in excellent fuel economy and minimal emissions of harmful exhaust gases. Add to
that the long service life and the result is maximum ‘Profit of Ownership’.
Moreover, for this two-axle Citea DLF, which is being built with two sets of stairs, plenty of thought
has been given to quick and comfortable passenger through-flow. The 11.4-metre long vehicle has
an innovative interior design. A display shows passengers how many seats are still available on
the upper deck. USB connections are provided there for every row of seats.
The Berlin Transport Authority (BVG)

BVG operates the public transport network in Berlin and surrounding region. Currently more than
1,300 buses are in service, which together with the tram and metro bring approximately 970 million
passengers to their destinations annually. This makes the Berlin Transport Authority the largest
operator of buses in the German-speaking region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). Each year
BVG’s buses, trams and metros travel more than 125 million kilometres, the equivalent of circling
the globe nearly 8.5 times a day.
