One of the first contracts Solaris signed in 2015 is one for delivery of forty-three low-floor Urbino 12 to Liepāja, Latvia. With the first batch already finished, there are twenty 12-metre Solaris buses running in Latvia’s third biggest city.
The official presentation of the first twenty units took place in Liepāja on 28th April 2015. According to the agreement Solaris will conduct deliveries until June 2015, when the city operator will be handed the last twenty-three vehicles. All the buses will be equipped with Euro 6 Cummins ISB 6.7 engines mounted to Voith Diwa 6 gearboxes. There will be air-conditioning as well as double-glazed windows installed as standard to protect passengers from severe seaside climate. Part of the vehicles will be fitted with passenger counting systems.
This significant order acquired from Latvia is Solaris’s debut in the scenic city stretching between the Baltic Sea and Liepāja Lake. The urban center with eighty thousand inhabitants will be third Latv
ian city with buses with the green dachshund at the front.
Including the newest batch, there are 333 Solaris vehicles operating in Latvia in total. Recently the production of 300 units for the capital city of Riga started. Solaris will build 125 diesel buses and 175 trolleybuses, the latter in cooperation with Škoda Electric. Twenty-five Trollino 18 along with thirty-five articulated Urbino 18 were delivered to the customer last year. Solaris buses also operate in Daugavpils.
