The BMA (Barcelona Metropolitan Area) will test the Irizar i2e in the metropolitan area
The Irizar i2e, 100% electric bus from Grupo Irizar will be tested on different lines of Baix Llobregat and l’Hospitalet in order to check its suitability for providing service in metropolitan routes.
Antoni Poveda, vice-president of Transport and Mobility for the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (BMA) has presented today in Sant Joan Despí, the 100% electric bus from Irizar that will operate in the coming weeks on different lines of the action area of the metropolitan area. Baixbus, (the company operating the l’Hospitalet, Baix Llobregat and the night bus) is responsible for putting the new bus into service on different lines –initially L46, L52 and L96- with the aim of verifying its suitability to provide service on urban and suburban routes of the BMA network.
This is the first test to be performed by the BMA with this type of vehicles in the metropolitan bus network with the aim of future implantation.
The BMA presents this vehicle together with another 6 adapted ones for persons with mobility problems forming part of a fleet renovation, as well as the new user information system that is already in use in different metropolitan bus stops and that informs of the minutes left until the arrival of the next bus.
The aspects highlighted in the presentation are:
Irizar i2e the 100% electric bus
The Irizar i2e is the first fully developed with our own technology. Currently it is being tested in two Spanish cities: San Sebastian (since July 2014) and Barcelona (since 18 August). The Irizar i2e has been designed to offer autonomy between 200 and 250 km with only one charge at the end of the day. Just five hours of charging guarantees between 14 and 16 hours of driving.
It is a low-floor urban bus, 12 meters long and 2.55 m wide. It has 24 seats, with full capacity for up to 70 passengers, as well as two places for wheel chairs.
Therefore, the BMA joins the rest of operators testing the bus after (Dbus) San Sebastian, (TMB) Barcelona, (EMT) Madrid, and (RTM) Marseille.
