Volvo Buses to supply 47 electric intercity buses to Bergkvara by end-2027

Volvo Buses has received an order for 47 Volvo 8900 Electric buses from Swedish operator Bergkvara for public transport services in Skåne.

The order, announced by Volvo Buses, covers battery-electric commuter buses to be deployed on local and regional routes operated by Bergkvara under contract with Skånetrafiken. The vehicles will serve intercity passengers in Skåne and city services in Trelleborg, where Bergkvara operates electric buses.

Volvo 8900 Electric buses ordered for Skåne and Trelleborg

The Volvo 8900 Electric, launched in 2024, is part of Volvo Buses’ battery-electric portfolio, which also includes the Volvo 7900 Electric, Volvo 7900 Electric Articulated, and the Volvo BZR and Volvo BZL electric platforms. The city bus range is manufactured in collaboration with MCV following the decision of Volvo Buses, announced in March 2023, of ceasing the production of complete buses, both urban and coach, in Europe. The first order for this same model was also landed in the domestic market last year.

According to Volvo Buses, the contract includes 47 units of the Volvo 8900 Electric in 4×2 and 6×2 configurations. The driveline specification includes five or six battery units, depending on the vehicle model.

Bergkvara is one of Sweden’s largest bus operators, with more than 1,350 buses in operation. The company provides local and regional services in Skåne under contract with Skånetrafiken.

Volvo Buses states that the new electric buses are scheduled to enter service by the end of 2027. The order also includes access to Volvo Buses’ supporting products and services.
