The Irizar i8 coach and Irizar Group’s 100% electric bus named 2016 Spanish Coach of the Year and Environmentally Friendly Industrial Vehicle of the Year
2016 starts with two awards for Irizar Group. The recently launched Irizar i8 coach and the 100% electric city bus receive the 2016 Spanish Coach of the Year and recently created 2016 Environmentally Friendly Industrial Vehicle of the Year Awards
These awards, established by the road transport sector magazines, Transporte 3 and Viajeros, reward the excellence of new bus and coach models and are recognised as the nation’s most important awards in the bus and coach category.
After thoroughly analysing the safety, reliability, economy and efficiency of the candidates, the jury, composed of entrepreneurs from the passenger transport sector, technical specialists and experts in the automotive field, decided to name Irizar i8 the Coach of the Year and Irizar i2e the Environmentally Friendly Industrial Vehicle of the Year.
The award ceremony took place last Wednesday 20 January at the Madrid Marriott Auditorium Hotel & Conference Center during an event that brought together entrepreneurs from the sector, members of the main industry associations and institutional representatives.
“This double recognition comes at a time of great strength for our group and is the result of the efforts we have made in recent years to invest in technology and sustainability” said José Manuel Orcasitas, managing director and CEO of Irizar group..
This is the first time that two Irizar vehicles have received an award in the same edition, the sixth time it has won these awards and the second award for Irizar i2e, the Group’s 100% electric bus.
The recently launched Irizar i8’s coach of the year award sees it take over the mantle from the Irizar i6 model, which won the same award in 2011.

Irizar i2e, 100% electric city bus
Irizar i2e, developed and manufactured with the Group’s own technology and a life-cycle approach, is the result of Irizar Group’s strategic commitment to innovation, with the aim of becoming a benchmark in sustainable urban mobility.
The 100% electric vehicle is designed to achieve the best possible energy efficiency (reduced consumption) and vehicle range as well as the optimal end of life management of the vehicle.
Wth a carbon footprint of 8.45 g CO2 eq./pkm (per passenger and kilometre), the i2e model is the result of joint work by the Irizar Group companies; Jema, Datik, Hispacold and Masats.
The Irizar i2e has been very well received on the market. In addition to the units operating in San Sebastián and Barcelona in Spain, there are now two in service in London, six in Marseille and it has been trialled by cities such as Madrid, Paris, Pamplona and Zaragoza.
