Madrid’s Municipal Bus fleet to add 170 CNG buses in 2016

The fleet of Madrid’s Municipal Transport Company, Empresa Municipal de Transportes (EMT) will be outfitted with 200 new buses in 2016 with the aim of securing better public transport for all citizens.

170 of these buses will operate with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at an investment cost to the city of EUR 53.95 million (USD 58.69m). According to GASNAM (Iberian association for CNG and LNG), the addition of the new natural gas buses will lift the portion of natural gas vehicles to 50% of the total fleet. The association noted also, that funds have been set aside to convert 15 existing buses from diesel to dual-fuel this year.
