Izmir places first order for 100 Otokar’s articulated bus

Otokar, Turkey’s bus sector market leader, has won the competitive tender to supply 100 articulated buses to Izmir Metropolitan Municipality’s ESHOT transport service. Otokar will deliver the vehicles during the course of 2016. The contract also covers maintenance and service support for the vehicles.

Otokar, a member of the Koç group of companies, is strengthening the public transport fleets of municipalities throughout the whole of Turkey. Otokar’s R&D centre works to develop vehicles users’ demands and expectations, and their reputation for durability, reliability and economy helped to win the competitive tender procedure for procurement, maintenance and service of 100 articulated buses for Izmir Metropolitan Municipality’s ESHOT transport service. The batched deliveries of the buses will be completed within 2016. This order means that the articulated buses newly developed by Otokar will be used for the first time on the streets of Izmir.

Otokar’s new low floor articulated buses permit access for disabled passengers. They are air-conditioned, and their environmentally friendly engine is fully compliant with the European Union’s Euro 6 standards.

Otokar’s General Manager Serdar Görgüç expressed his pleasure that ESHOT had chosen Otokar for Izmir’s public transport system:

“Otokar’s articulated buses combine low operating costs with a high standard of comfort and durability, and will bring fresh energy to Izmir’s dynamic transport system. Our 9 m Vectio C bus, and our 12 m Kent C bus are already serving the transport needs of Izmir’s population. It is a matter of pride for us that our Kent Flexible buses will also be serving the Izmir public, and that the number of our vehicles serving the city will be increasing every day. But this order is particularly important for us because the Kent Flexible bus, a newcomer to our product range, will be carrying passengers for the first time in Izmir.

We have more than 50 years’ experience in public transport, and the knowledge that we have accumulated introducing more than 1000 of our buses in metropolitan cities such as Istanbul will ensure that Izmir gets with the best possible service. We see a bright future for our new vehicles as they set out on the city streets.”
