First VDL Futuras FMD2-135 delivered in Finland

At the end of December 2015 VDL Bus & Coach delivered the very first FMD2-135 Futuras to Finnish company Pohjolan Liikenne. New to this dual-axle Futura FMD2 is the length of 13.5 metres, providing extra seating up to 63+1+1 or more leg room with fewer seats for premium passenger comfort.
Pohjolan Liikenne, one of the largest Finnish bus companies, has placed many orders with VDL Bus & Coach in the past, but this is the first from the VDL Futura range. “The Finnish public transport market is extremely competitive, which means that as an operator we need to find new ways of increasing profitability and attracting passengers. We believe that the new VDL Futura FMD2-135 will help us achieve these goals,” says Heikki Alanko, CEO Pohjolan Liikenne. The Futuras have been in service since early January, providing intercity transport between Helsinki and Turku.

The VDL Futura FMD2 is a profitable all-rounder that serves well for both charter and intercity transport service. The 1,250 mm floor height provides easy entry and egress. The wide centre door, available as an option, can be equipped with a cassette lift to enable passengers with a physical disability to safely enter and exit the coach. The owner/operator will find that the Futura FMD2 offers Profit of Ownership: the low net weight, reduced fuel consumption, high passenger capacity, generous luggage space and low running costs make the Futura FMD2 a highly profitable investment.

The 2 Futuras FMD2-135/370 for Pohjolan Liikenne have a length of 13.5 metres and are fitted with seating for 49+1+1, therefore these dual-axle Futuras will have a comfortable arrangement with plenty of leg room. In addition, both luxury Futuras were customized for this customer to include a snack and coffee machine, passenger information system, 230V power outlets at each seat and Wi-Fi.

With a fleet of 500 buses and coaches, the company provides local, regional and long-distance services mainly in southern Finland The annual turnover is €91 million, and the company employs 1000 people. Pohjolan Liikenne’s buses and coaches transport some 30 million passengers a total of 30 million kilometres each year. Pohjolan Liikenne is a subsidiary of VR, the Finnish national railway company.
